A CCTV system from Mobotix AG has been installed at The University of Glasgow’s Hunterian Museum and Art Gallery, the oldest public museum in Scotland, with a discreet, reliable and low cost system.
Housed within four buildings on the main campus of the University in the west end of Glasgow, the Hunterian Museum and Art Gallery has highly prized collections of archaeology, historical artefacts, cultural treasures and truly breathtaking works of art. The museum has had a basic CCTV system
for around 20 years but the poor picture quality and reliance on unreliable tape recordings was proving a concern. The gallery area was the most pressing
concern due to the high value items on display. Proxis UK utilised the power of the Mobotix
Hemispheric technology to use a single camera to cover entire rooms or intersections where other systems had recommended two or three separate cameras. In total, Proxis used just 18 Mobotix cameras to provide coverage of every single public accessible space across the entire gallery. Each camera uses Power over Ethernet
capability that allows much simpler single cabling over narrow Category 5.
Carnival UK has deployed Aruba’s high performance 802.11n wireless solutions at its new Southampton UK headquarters and on P&O Cruises’ newest and most stylish cruise ship, Azura, launched in April 2010. Pervasive Networks, an Aruba Platinum Partner, deployed and supports the 802.11n networks. Wi-Fi performance on Aruba’s 802.11n network is enhanced
by the Adaptive Radio Management (ARM) and spectrum analyser technology which are integrated into the Aruba 802.11n access points. ARM uses infrastructure based controls to optimise network and client performance in real time. Working together, ARM and spectrum analysis close the gap between the theoretical
performance of Wi-Fi clients and what is achieved in real world deployments. The Wi-Fi network has made a marked difference to the crew on board Azura. Many
cruise ships have limited Internet access in crew areas because of the cost and diffi culty of running network cabling - Azura’s crew has 802.11n wireless access throughout the crew area. Carnival is trialing Aruba’s Virtual Branch Networks (VBN) solution to extend the corporate network to remote staff. Using compact, low cost Remote Access Points (RAPs), the network can be extended to virtually any remote location with enterprise class security and plug-and-play simplicity.
Staying cool
Sudlows has won a £600,000 contract with The Co-operative Financial Services, an integral division of the renowned Co-operative Group, to perform a data centre power upgrade at its North Manchester site. Sudlows, who recently completed an earlier phase on this multi-million pound project, will upgrade the 900m² rack space to attain a 2MVA resilient power capacity and deliver a much higher cooling capacity for total data centre protection. As a key endorser of the EU Code of Conduct for data centre effi ciency, which is a series of voluntary measures laying out minimum effi ciency standards, Sudlows will incorporate advanced components within the data centre including an AVK Titan UPS system and Airedale SmartCool precision cooling for reduced energy consumption and increased uptime.
