The new S&S coaster at Happy Valley Beijing (see page 12) is pretty fast, but somehow its English name, Extreme Rusher, doesn't quite work. I love it!
The worthy attempt by parks in non-English speaking countries to provide an English translation can result in amusing, or sometimes incredibly literal, ride names. Take the Over Water Roller Coaster at Honey Lake China Amusement Park in Shenzhen or the Colourful 4 Ring Roller Coaster at Nanjing Pearl Spring Resort. You know exactly what you're going to get. A quick online search (thanks Rollercoaster Database) soon brought up some of the more obscure ones. I apologise for picking on parks in China, but it's a rich source of exotically-named coasters, including Big Worm Inertia Train (Zhongshan Park, Shanghai), Dizzy Love and Whirling Passion (Discovery Land, Dalian), Golden Wings in Snowfield (Happy Valley Beijing), Spin Tackle (Fantawild Sci Fi Park, Jiangbei) and Suspended Cool Cool Bear (Beijing Amusement Park). And here, courtesy of Google Translate, is one more: That's Cedar Point's new Shoot the Rapids (see page 32) in Mandarin, probably. Who knows, for our Chinese readers, this could be equally entertaining. Enjoy the ride!
