Tivoli Hotel

Copenhagen’s first themed hotel was due to open on September 2, realising a long held dream for the operators of the city’s world-famous Tivoli amusement park. The 12-storey Tivoili Hotel, operated together with

the Arp-Hansen Hotel Group, provides a unique experience by integrating the Tivoli spirit and design history. On arrival, for example, guests are greeted by a merry-go-round in the lobby. The hotel’s 382 rooms include a variety of themes, including 20 Boys Guard (pictured above right) and Columbine rooms. A bird’s eye view of the city awaits diners at the

Sticks ’n’ Sushi Skybar. Hotel guests can also make use of a swimming pool, fitness area and brasserie. An adjoining congress centre will open in due course, linked to the amusement park by a themed garden and playground. In addition to Tivoli tickets, guests can take advantage of shuttle buses running between the hotel and the gardens and, during peak season, Pierrot, Harlequin and Columbine will perform in the lobby for families.

"It is gratifying to finally have a theme hotel in Copenhagen,” says Lise Lyck, head of tourism and cultural management at copenhagen business school. “Experience from other countries shows that such a development benefits the attraction, the hotel itself and the destination, providing many satisfied visitors.

This is something we need in Denmark, as, unfortunately, we have seen a decline in tourism for a number of years." The Tivoli Hotel is located on Arni Magnussons Gade, Copenhagen.

Legoland Windsor hotel

Merlin Entertainments has agreed a sale and leaseback (SLB) deal on land adjacent to Legoland Windsor near London, where it is planning to build a themed hotel. The 150-bed Legoland hotel is scheduled to open at Easter 2012, part of a £30 million ($46m/€36m) park investment designed to enhance the quality of the Legoland experience. The £18.5m deal with property investment firm Aprirose covers a 2.7-acre site but not the park itself, which remains part of Merlin’s freehold portfolio. Three years ago, however, the attractions operator sold its land at Alton Towers, Warwick Castle, Thorpe Park and Madame Tussauds in London to the property firm Prestbury as part of a SLB agreement.

The OCT group continues to invest at its

properties across China and will soon start a phase II expansion at Happy Valley Chengdu, which opened last summer.
