TEA elects new president
Rick Rothschild will be the new president of the TEA (Themed Entertainment Association), starting in November.

A 40-year attractions industry veteran with three decades’ experience at Walt Disney Imagineering, he is founder and
chief creative officer of the consultancy FAR OUT! as well as a creative director for Global Immersion.
"Rick's background with entertainment and education projects alike, and his understanding of both creative and technical design enable him to effectively speak to all TEA members and market sectors," says current TEA president Steve Thorburn of Thorburn Associates. “Rick has all the 'right stuff' to take the TEA into the post-recession global commerce environment.” Still a consultant to Disney, Rothschild's projects include directing the creation of
Finding Nemo Submarine Voyage, and bringing back the Captain EO attraction. At Global Immersion he is part of a team supporting the development of unique planetarium and immersive theatre experiences worldwide. Rothschild will be handed the reigns to the TEA presidency during IAAPA Attractions Expo in Orlando.
Potter's magic Universal Orlando posted its first attendance
gain in more than two years, as the resort began to reap the full benefits from the Wizarding World of Harry Potter at Islands of Adventure. Combined attendance at Universal's two theme parks rose 2.2% during the second quarter of the year, climbing to nearly 2.6 million visitors from fewer than 2.5 million a year ago. Wildfire Inc, a supplier of UV ("black light") effects for the entertainment industry, is sponsoring this month’s Glow event on Muscle Beach in Santa Monica, California. AtmosFEAR! screams into Halloween
To mark his 10th year in business, Jason Karl of AtmosFEAR! Scare Attractions is to launch 10 haunted experiences in the UK and Ireland this coming Halloween season. Five of these will form part of Scare Kingdom “scream park” in Lancashire, with additional attractions operating in Yorkshire and Ireland. At Scare Kingdom, hosted at Hawkshaw
Farm Park in Clayton-le-Dale, attractions this year will include the Unhallowed Hill corn maze, Hellfire Hall and Tingler’s Toy Factory walk- through shows and, for the kids, Labyrinth of the Lost Pirates and Trick or Treat. At nearby Salmesbury Hall, AtmosFEAR! will produce a spooky tour called MediEVIL, based around a fictional tale of witchcraft, sorcery and murder set in the building’s historic surroundings. Over in Ireland, AtmosFEAR! is to produce a new scare attraction called Phantom Funtasia and Tunnel of Terror at the McCormick family’s Funtasia Waterpark and FEC in Drogheda, north of Dublin. “After a decade of making people scream, we know how to really give people a great experience that they will enjoy and remember,” concludes Karl.
