Holly goes wild! New coaster opens at Holiday World

Holiday Park’s parrot mascot gives his name to the German venue’s new rollercoaster. Holly’s Wilde Autofahrt (Holly’s Wild Car Ride) is a themed Wild Mouse from Maurer Söhne, and the anchor attraction of the new Holly’s Cartoon Town.

Holiday Park recruited

children’s illustrators Peter and Heinrich Eberle to design the new area of the park in Hassloch near Mannheim. On Holly’s Wilde Autfofahrt, riders speed past comic features including a drive-in diner and petrol station and can even collect a “speeding ticket” in the form of a souvenir photo.

Planet Snoopy

The Cedar Fair chain is to transform two more Camp Snoopy children’s areas at its park in the United States into Planet Snoopy.

At Dorney Park in Allentown, Pennsylvania, the $8 million Planet Snoopy will open in spring 2011 encompassing nearly three-and-a-half acres (1.4

Worlds of Fun

hectares) of land, making it the largest collections of kids’ rides on the US East Coast. As well as retheming nine of the existing rides, Dorney Park will also introduce nine new ones by Zamperla including a Flying Ace Balloon Race, Linus Launcher, Snoopy’s Sky Ride and an aerial monorail with themed passenger cars. Also featured will be the new Peanuts Showplace amphitheatre, Snoopy Boutique souvenir store, Soda Pop Shop and a family care facility for those with infants and toddlers. At World of Fun in Kansas City, Missouri, Planet Snoopy represents a $5 million expansion. Here Zamperla will also supply a balloon ride, joined by a new car ride truck ride, tea cups and Rockin’ Tug. In total, Planet Snoopy will feature over 20 new and rethemed rides, shows and attractions. The new look is scheduled to open in April.

The attraction features 370-metres of track and occupies a 20 x 40-metre footprint. Eight four-seater cars are used. As well as the new coaster, Holiday Park has also installed a new snack bar as part of Holly’s Cartoon Town. Coaster fans at the park have also welcomed the return of Expedition

GeForce, which reopened on August 5 after an incident earlier in the season. www.holidaypark.de

Green streak!

Over 100 “thrill streakers” shed their clothes and their inhibitions to set a new world record for a naked rollercoaster ride on August 8. The stunt, at Adventure Island in Southend-on-Sea, England, also

raised more than £22,000 ($34,000, €26,000) for breast cancer research at Southend Hospital.

Just 40 naked riders filling one train of the Green Scream rollercoaster were all that was required to smash the previous record of 32, set in 2004 on Nemesis at Alton Towers. However, 102 people turned up at Adventure Island, so the park ran the ride three times.

Some really will do anything to get a free ride!
