[ Project focus: MediaCityUK ] Good to go

MediaCityUK’s Holiday Inn is a 218-bed hotel equipped with bar, restaurant and meeting rooms, as well as gym facilities. The hotel uses the new Holiday Inn brand standards, meaning it will have a contemporary look and feel. Lancashire based WH Good was

appointed by Bovis Lend Lease to carry out the electrical and mechanical work for the new hotel. Phil Sumner is WH Good’s managing director and says: ‘WH Good is recognised for its expertise in hotel work and we started work in August 2009, with upwards of 100 of our operatives on site.’

The hotel is multi-tenanted, with 

some of the floors being the hotel area, while others are office facilities for the media companies that are housed on the MediaCityUK site. Sumner explains: ‘The entrance to the hotel is on the ground floor, but floors one, two and six are office space. That said, the two areas are completely separate

and you’d never know the building is shared.’ WH Good was keen to maintain the

energy efficiency approach that has been employed in the other buildings on the development. Sumner comments, ‘One extremely effective way in which have enabled energy saving is by using LED-based lighting. We have used this extensively in the hotel due to its long life and low maintenance. The hotel sector does like continuity between sites and Holiday Inn is no exception, and looks to install energy saving products where possible.’ The electrical and mechanical work at the hotel has now been completed and Sumner is happy with how the project went. He summarises: ‘WH Good is pleased to have been able to play a part in this landmark development, one which showcases the very best that the building services industry has to offer.’
