SI Brixham organised a display on the old fish quay to mark the new international ban on Cluster Munitions. The Brixham event which was watched by many people, was helped by the local Samba Jam Band which are a fairly new local band with ages ranging from 5 years to “vintage”. Information leaflets were distributed, Purple Teardrop campaign petitions signed and a great deal of interest was shown.


SI Jersey held its 60th Charter Anniversary weekend in June and were delighted to welcome SIGBI President Jackie Mosedale and sixty guests including five from the L’Orient Club in Brittany. Friday evening was spent at the Government House Levee and the dinner on Saturday evening was attended by the Governor and his wife and finished with a spectacular firework display over St Aubin’s harbour.


SI Lancaster and SI Morecambe and Heysham attended the Naming Ceremony of the Margaret Mary Timpany D Class inshore lifeboat at the new Lifeboat Station on Morecambe Promenade and met members of the crew. The late Dr Margaret Timpany was a member of SI Lancaster for many years and her very generous bequest to the RNLI enabled them to purchase this wonderful D Class lifeboat.


SI Newcastle held a Charity Day in July on Newcastle’s historic quayside. Members Joan Macbeth and Kath Shearer undertook a sponsored abseil from the roof of the five storey high Malmaison Hotel in support of Mencap. They were supported by Soroptimists and family members and over £1000 was raised. SI Newcastle upon Tyne President Joan Macbeth is pictured looking happy for the first time that afternoon as she nears the ground!


SI Rugby held its Charter Dinner on 9 July, marking 72 years in Rugby. President, Desiree Lambert extended an invitation to Rugby’s Lord Mayor, Mr Don Williams, who joined guests to a full evening of merriment. After the meal, guests were entertained by ‘Queen Elizabeth I’ also know as Lesley Smith, Historian and Curator of Tutbury Castle in Staffordshire.


SI Stafford held a health and safety evening with information on foot care, alternative health therapies, diet and fire safety, they could also have a blood pressure check and meet a cancer nurse specialist. Members Julie Maddock and Sandy Townsend (centre and right) are with a representative from ADSIS (the alcohol and drug advisory service). £250 was raised for a hospice.


SI Birkenhead raised £940 for President Sue’s charities at Port Sunlight summer fair. Members sold African craft goods for their Port Elizabeth social projects and ran a busy bottle tombola and lucky dip for the children. Thousands crowded the picturesque village for this annual event and the stall heightened the Club profile locally and two people wanted to join the Club as a result.

Members of SI Scotland South Region (SISSR) attended the House of Lords Lunch on 8 July, 2010, by invitation of Baroness Blood of Blackwatertown in the County of Armagh. After lunch overlooking The Thames, a cheque for £1000 was presented to Project SIerra.

SI Wolverhampton members were pleased to welcome to the August meeting, their Speaker, Jeremy Hobbs who is the County Co-ordinator for Help for Heroes, a Charity which supports British troops injured in combat. Jeremy told the Club of the dedication and hard work of Bryn and Emma Parry who set up the charity to provide care both medical and emotional, to troops suffering terrible injuries that, as little as five years ago, they would not have survived. President Renee White presented Jeremy with a cheque for £1300 raised at her recent Concert in aid of Help for Heroes.
