SELWOOD BUYS MORE AMMANN

Selwood, the national hirer of plant and pumping machinery, reports that it has invested nearly £2.5m with Ammann Equipment since the beginning of the year on new items for its hire fleet. Nearly 120 machines have been ordered, with most already having been delivered to the company’s branches throughout the country. These units range from 1.5 to 10 tonne mini excavators and 80 to 130cm tandem rollers. Selwood’s Operations Director Jon Sendell commented, “This is a significant and sizeable investment in difficult times, but we have to ensure that we can meet our local customer demands. Plant hire is a capital intensive business and it is important that we continue to invest

Andrews Sykes launches scrappage scheme

In an innovative move adapted from the successful car scrappage scheme that helped manufacturers sell an estimated 400,000 vehicles in the depths of the recession, Andrews Sykes has launched a new Scrappage Scheme for its ranges of dryers and dehumidifiers, portable air conditioners and selected pump models. According to Operations Support Director Nigel Gill, “with regard to drying and air conditioning, we will take back any manufacturer’s product of a similar output, whatever its age.We will collect these old units and re-cycle them, in line with the WEEE regulations. Many old dehumidifiers and portable air conditioners feature R22 refrigerant gas, which is now being phased out.Very soon the R22 regulations tighten further and a total

ban on the re-charging of refrigerant will come into effect. There has never been a better time to get rid of these units and upgrade to the greener R-407C refrigerant.” The scrappage scheme comprises Andrews Sykes four most popular portable air conditioners units - the ET9, Polar Breeze, KYD44 and the Polar Wind, offering outputs from 7,500BTU to 14,000 BTU. The scheme also offers two of its most popular dehumidifiers, the FD30 and HD500, which Andrews Sykes claims is the original building dryer, which has been around since the late 1970s, with sales in excess of 10,000 machines. On the pump scheme, Andrews Sykes is offering to trade-in hirers’ existing 4in and 6in Sykes pumps for the manufacturer’s latest ‘super-silenced’ Wispaset units.
