In case you didn’t know... Park’s History Lesson

Foundry Park, Elgin, Ill., is a city park built on the grounds of what was once Woodruff and Edwards Foundry. Started in 1867, the company poured a wide range of castings before it closed in 1987. The iron works started as a maker of castings for school and opera seating and over the years added coffee grinding mills (prized collectors’ items today), bicycle parts, airplane propellers for the U.S. Army and automotive castings. At its peak during the mid-1970s, the company employed 400 and poured 12 tons of iron an hour.

After the company closed, the City of Elgin purchased the property. In 1990, the buildings were demolished, and eventually Foundry Park was developed on the land.
