Shoot the Rapids Cedar Point adds third water ride

Shoot the Rapids, a major new water ride by IntaRide is now open at Cedar Point, Sandusky, Ohio. The attraction was delayed by a month due to oversized boats. Located on the Frontier Trail, Shoot the

Rapids is Cedar Point’s third water ride, and also features one of the tallest drops of its kind in the world. The first of two hills is 85ft-tall, while the second crests 49ft above the ground. At the bottom of the first hill, boats are travelling nearly 50 mph. Shoot the Rapids uses more than 730,000 gallons of water. The 2,100ft journey carries riders through a dark mist- filled tunnel and in between canyon walls with spraying water before sending the boats skimming across churning rapids at the bottom of the ride’s second hill. Non-riders

can also join in the fun as eight water geysers are located along the ride’s meandering course. Guests who want to stay dry can launch bursts of water at unsuspecting riders from an observation deck located near the bottom the ride’s grand finale. With the opening of Shoot the Rapids, Cedar Point now has 75 rides, including 17 rollercoasters.

Maurer goes to Rome

Rainbow Magic Land, a major new theme park currently taking shape outside Rome, will feature, amongst other attractions, two rollercoasters by Maurer Söhne. The rides in question will be an X-Car launch coaster and a spinning coaster.

The latter, occupying a footprint of 40 x 60-metres, is being constructed inside a building, as seen here, with a “panorama curve” escaping outside the hall. The ride features 430 metres of track and two lift sections, the first located at the start of the ride as you’d expect and the second shortly before returning into the station. The ride features seven cars and an hourly capacity for 850 passengers. Rainbow Magic Land will open in spring 2011 and represents an investment of around €200 million.
