years of fun! ShowGuide Two market-leading European parks are celebrating their 35th
anniversaries in 2010. Europa-Park, the most popular leisure park in Germany, celebrated by staging a week of events in July, including the opening of the Europa-Park Historama exhibition. Located inside the park’s large Pyramid building, Historama features some of the early drawings for the park, varous touchscreen exhibits and a multimedia trip through time using the Pyramid’s revolving theatre. The outside of the building has also been given a fresh look, cloaked in blue with gold lettering and details. The adjacent monorail station and shopping area also been revamped for the park’s 35th anniversary. An additional event was held on Saturday, July 31, when the park and its attractions stayed open around the clock. Over at Gardaland in Italy, a giant party was held on July 19 to mark its 35th anniversary at the foot of Lake Garda. Disco was the music of choice as the park and its employees turned back the clock to remember its 1970s roots. The spectacular evening of entertainment was rounded off with fireworks. Discounted entry was also awarded to those turning up in stereotypical ‘70s
dress. The celebrations continue throughout August when guests can enter for just €10 if they arrive after 7pm. The park’s anniversary is also being marked by the Italian post office, which is issuing a special Gardaland frank mark. Big thing are planned for the park, which has been part of Merlin Entertainments in 2007, for next season. Work has begun on constructing a Flying Coaster from Bolliger & Mabillard (B&M). Progress can be tracked via a webcam on the Gardaland website.
