In the past five years, chapter members have recruited more than 20,000 new MOAA members. Learn more about their efforts to bring in younger members to help keep the association and its chapters strong.

ive years ago, MOAA launched the Give Me 10! program. Much like your drill
instructor told you to “give me 10” push-ups, MOAA asked each of its chapters to give us 10 new national MOAA members. This department’s main story, “Recruiting for MOAA,” is about this program. Right now, mem- bers are recruiting colleagues and earning non-dues income through in- centives while helping MOAA — and their chapters — gain members. It has exceeded our expectations. This is one more indication of the can-do spirit
tional MOAA, but chapter members do the work by finding potential new members and recruiting them for chapter and national MOAA member- ship. We greatly appreciate this effort, and several years ago, we began look- ing for a way we could do more for our chapters. In 2008, during a special Year of the Chapter effort to bolster our chapter system, we came up with a recruiting idea to help chapters by “pushing” new members to them. This means MOAA does the work of recruiting potential new members and identifying them to the chapters. Our first effort netted 3,400 new chapter members for the system — a 7-percent increase. Because of its success, we decided to do it again in 2010. Some of you reading this column

Recruiting for MOAA
M
OAA’s chapter system has been doing a lot of heavy lifting for the as-
sociation since the chapter system was established almost 60 years ago. Now, MOAA’s 416 chapters provide critical grassroots support to help move national MOAA’s legislative agenda forward. Members of these chapters also give back to their com- munities through their involvement in a host of activities that support area businesses and citizens and local servicemembers. In September 2005, MOAA once
again asked chapters to step up when the association launched Give Me 10!, a program that challenged each of its chapters to recruit 10 new members for national MOAA. Chapter mem- bers met the challenge and have re- cruited more than 20,000 new MOAA members in the past five years.
