Now, as a senior citizen, I watch helplessly as our active duty military breth- ren and civilians at the Pentagon propose so-called new efficiencies that attempt to slash and burn ben- efits that their service predecessors earned before them. Cultural Connections I enjoyed [“Practice Makes Perfect,” Encore] by Lt. Col. Steven Ross [USA-Ret.] in the July [2010] issue. I attended three reviews … and was fortunate not to be picked. I would, however, like to point out something else. … By involving ourselves into our host’s culture and, as with Lieuten- ant Colonel Ross, taking an interest in it and enjoying it, we do more good than we [might] realize we are doing toward our relationships with our hosts. Sadly, I think that was more the exception than the rule while I was serving. On a personal side, it was extremely good for us personally. While in the Philippines, I went into
