GAMES OF LIFE >>>>>> AL BICKHAM, HEAD OF UK PR, 2K GAMES

What is the first game you remember playing and really enjoying? The first game I played again and again was probably Rebelstaron the Spectrum, and that sparked a love of turn-based skirmisher games. It was awesome.

What games are you currently enjoying at the moment? Probably World of Warcraft. I’ve been at level 80 for quite some time and I’m doing all the heroic dungeons with my mates. We get on Skype, crack open some beers, make knob jokes – it’s great fun.

RPG elements it brought to first- person shooters, which obviously inspired Deus Exand BioShock.

Favourite game of all time? System Shock 2, for just the sheer ‘hairs standing up on the back of your neck’ moments. It was also great for all the

What forthcoming game are you most looking forward to? StarCraft II. I’ve been playing the beta – and got absolutely thrashed by everyone I played. But now I’m at the stage where I can drop into any game and do rather well, so I feel like I’ll be able to hold my own when it arrives. I’m also really excited about the single-player campaigns.

QUOTEOF THE WEEK

“It’s shocking how you really can't burn bridges in the industry. You start your own company but then it's like Empire Strikes Back – you walk in the room and holy shit! Darth Vader's at the table! It's such a small industry, you see the

THQ TEMPTS GOLDBLUM For a while, THQ’s The Gathering was a typical suppliers conference. Plenty of big games on display. Retailers grilling each other about business plans on the publisher’s lie detector game Truth or Lies. Then in wanders Hollywood actor Jeff Goldblum, who genuinely happened to be passing by on his way to the Soho Hotel’s gym, and – after stealing the controller from MCV’s man in the field – sat down to play The Last Airbender. Sadly, he was camera shy, but THQ managed to sneakily aquire these shots (right).
