From the makers of Puzzle Quest and Bejeweled 2 comes a new DS movie tie-in…

by Dominic Sacco

CATS & DOGS was a popular kids film released in cinemas back in 2001 which humorously captured an espionage-style war between talking felines and canines. Now 505 Games is publishing a DS game to accompany Warner Bros. big screen sequel, Cats & Dogs: The Revenge of Kitty Galore, which arrives in cinemas in August. The success of the original and its young demographic ensures demand remains steadfast for the new handheld release.

The game features over 45 missions and allows players to choose from multiple characters including a rookie canine agent, a feline double agent and a streetwise pigeon. They all boast their own individual abilities that can be used to defeat the evil Kitty Galore. As players progress they can unlock high-tech gadgets, power-ups and new areas, as well as mini-games. These range from helping stool pigeons to carry out bombing operations, to various escort and stealth-based missions. The franchise’s sense of humour is also evident – skills aren’t just called

moves – they’re known as AI, or ‘Animal Intelligence’.

Fans of the films will also be at home with familiar locations ported straight from the movies – Dog HQ, Alcatraz and the Playland Amusement Park all make their way into the game. Developer Engine Software is also experienced in the casual market, having worked on the popular Puzzle Quest on DS and Bejeweled 2 on Wii. Cats & Dogs: The Revenge of Kitty Galore looks to extend the developer’s previous successes with its blend of platforming gameplay, semi-3D graphics and action sequences.

Galore is released on Nintendo DS on July 23rd, just over one week before the film’s launch on August 3rd. Purr-fect timing, surely...?

Lace Mamba Global brings its PC adventure franchise So Blonde to the casual market on Nintendo consoles…

by Dominic Sacco

FOLLOWING its success with PC adventure gamers, So Blonde is heading to Wii and DS, courtesy of Lace Mamba Global.

The publisher is well-known in the niche PC point-and-click game market with titles such as Black Mirror II, Ghost Pirates of Vooju Island plus its upcoming Xbox 360 debut Gray Matter. And to kick-start its Q3 game assault, Lace Mamba Global is releasing casual adventure game So Blonde. “The game was a huge success on

PC – it’s a highly anticipated and credible release particularly among dedicated adventure gamers,” European MD Jason Codd tells MCV. “It has huge potential to appeal to not only the hardcore, but casual gamers, too.” So Blonde is the story of 17-year-old

Sunny, the daughter of a wealthy family who finds herself stranded on a desert island after a thunderstorm strikes their holiday cruise ship.

Unlike the bright Caribbean scenery from the PC version, the Wii and DS

adaptation features a darker location with a new storyline written by Steve Ince – the creator of classic adventure game Broken Sword. However, it still retains the PC original’s sense of humour and features over 40 characters to interact with. Codd adds: “So Blonde is primarily targeted towards the youth market and core adventure game fans but it also has a real pick up and play appeal that all casual gamers will enjoy.

“Due to the younger target audience

for So Blonde, online promotions and social networking will be key to marketing the game.” So Blonde arrives in UK stores on

Friday, August 27th for Nintendo Wii and DS.
