JOHN JUSTUS MEYER, JR. "Jud" (Age 95)
Died peacefully July 10, 2010. A resident of Friends House in Sandy Spring, Maryland he was predeceased by his wife of 52 years, Katharine Riggs Meyer who died in 1991. Born December 25, 1914 in Baltimore, he was a long time resident of Sandy Spring, Leisure World, and for the last five years, Friends House. A graduate of Towson State Teachers College, he taught school and later served as a Principal during the late 1930s.
Reserve, was commissioned an Ensign in 1943, and served on active duty until 1946. He retired from the inactive Reserves as a Lieutenant Commander in 1953. He worked for the National Security Agency and its predecessor organizations, until retiring in 1972. He was a long time member of the Sandy Spring Volunteer Fire Department, the Brookeville American Legion, and the Sandy Spring Lions Club. He was named a Melvin Jones Fellow of the Lions Clubs International Foundation. Always active in his community, he was a member of Home Interest and served as a leader of Montgomery County 4-H Sheep and Swine Club. He and his wife Katharine were very active in the Wally Byam Caravan Club’s Mid-Atlantic Chapter, and traveled widely throughout the U.S., Canada, Alaska, Great Britain, and New Zealand in Airstreams. They spent winters, and were founding residents of Paradise Park, near Punta Gorda, Florida. He is survived by his son John J. Meyer, III of Tampa, Florida, daughter Susan Meyer Roe of Alexandria, Virginia, granddaughters, Kimberly Green Matney, Laura Anne Han- lon, and Rebecca Sue Green, and four great grandchildren all of Maryland. A memorial service will be held at 11:30 a.m., Saturday July 17, 2010 at St. John’s Episcopal Church in Olney, Maryland (State Route 108). Vincent was born on April 15,
1940, in Washington, DC. He was a 1958 graduate of St. John’s College High School and a 1963 graduate of Syracuse University, where he played lacrosse. Vincent was a veteran of Vietnam and peacetime, having served in the Army from April 1, 1964, until his honorable discharge on August 17, 1997, at the rank of Captain. He received numerous honors including the Bronze Star,
Mason and belonged to Friendship Lodge #9 which is now Mariner’s. He lived an ethical life with devotion to his family. His beloved wife, Mary died in 1977 and Joseph never remarried, preferring to keep his relationship with his wife spiritually and emotionally intact. Harry Pemberton Williams, Jr., died July 6, 2010 after a six year battle with Multiple Myeloma. He was 78. Born May 24, 1932 in Martinsville, Va., Harry graduated from Dunbar High School inWashington, D.C. in 1949 and Howard University’s School of Architecture in 1954. He was a member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. Harry was an officer in the U.S. Air Force from 1954 to 1958. He was joined in marriage to Barbara J. Yancey of Newport News, Va., in 1961. To this union, two children were born: Beth Ellen and Harry Pemberton, III. Harry practiced architecture with fellow architect Herbert G. McDonald. McDonald & Williams Architects and Planners flour- ished for more than 30 years on Georgia Avenue, NW. Adding new partner Andrei Banks in 1989, McDonald,Williams, Banks, still practices today. Harry was a well- loved and well-respected member of a large extended family.He leaves to cherish his memory: daughter, Beth Ellen Williams Pryor with husband, William B. Pryor; son, Harry P. His subsequent civil service career included positions at the Department of Commerce, the Small Business Administra- tion and the Department of Energy. He was active in the leadership of the Department of Energy Chapter of Blacks in Government. He began and led the DC-Baltimore Chapter of Amyloidosis Support Groups Inc. after being diagnosed with the disease in 2004.

Of Stafford County, died peacefully at his home on Tuesday, July 13, 2010. Born and raised on a Krakow, Wisconsin farm to Joseph and Victoria Majeski in 1923, Lenard Majeski was one of nine siblings. He grad- uated from Pulaski High School, served as a SSG with the U.S. Marine Corps in the Pacific during World War II from 1943 to 1946 and earned a BSEE degree from Milwaukee School of Engineering in 1951. Employed by RCA Services Co. in 1951 as a Field Engineer with Military Communication and Radar Missile Systems, he enjoyed assignments in Alaska, Marshall Islands, Hawaii, Puerto Rico, Greenland, France, Belgium and Udine, Italy, where he met and married his wife Anna in 1958. Mr. Majeski returned to the United States in 1960 living in New Jersey, Colorado, Texas and Virginia. He was Den Leader for Cub Scouts in Texas and coached the Girls’ Lassie League softball team in Virginia. He retired from RCA in 1987 and moved to Florida for eight years before returning to Virginia. He loved sports, gardening, crossword puzzles, wave running, and go kart riding. Mr. Majeski is predeceased by brothers Edward, Elmer, Lucien, Alex, and Henry “Doc”; and sisters Alice and Lottie. He is survived by his lovely wife Anna; children Beatrice Aud, Carey, David, Patsy Adolph, Janice Weis and John; ten grandchildren; four great grandchildren; and his brother Chet. A mass of celebration will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, July 19 at St. Patrick Catholic Church 9151 Elys Ford Road Fred- ericksburg, VA. Interment will follow in Quantico National Cemetery at 1 p.m. Fam- ily and friends are invited to gather at Covenant Funeral Service, Fredericksburg from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday, July 18.
