SAS International launches XP frame
SAS International has launched the XP frame, a new range of expandable depth aluminium door and window frames that can be installed swiftly into either plasterboard partitions or masonry walls between 74mm and 225mm thick. The XP frame provides contractor’s with a price competitive product which is quick and easy to install. It can be purchased direct from the manufacturer at SAS Direct Depots throughout the UK.
All XP door and window frames are supplied as fully finished pre-assembled kits for rapid on-site fitting. Once unpacked, the frames can be installed within 20 minutes for a professional and neat finish.
When fitting door and window frames, wall systems can vary in width and plasterboard can vary significantly in thickness. With this in mind, the innovative manufacturer developed fully depth adjustable frames which are not reliant on set wall thickness or perfect square
openings. Both the door and window frames can provide up to 60 minutes fire resistance. Door
frames are
supplied as door sets, complete with a SAS-veneered door and factory-fitted, non- protruding ironmongery. Whilst window frames are supplied with the appropriate rated glass, direct from the factory, reducing on-site installation time. The frames separate into an inner and outerframe: the inner frame is fitted from one side of an opening and the outer frame slides over, pulling tight against the other side. This eliminates tolerances or differences in wall construction methods. Once the two parts are fitted, architraves, door stops or glazing beads are clipped into place.
To meet the varying wall thicknesses, two different sized XP frames are available with either rounded or square profiles; Standard, for wall thicknesses between 74mm and 123mm or Jumbo, for wall thicknesses between 118mm and 225mm. XP frames suit both 44mm and 54mm standard and bespoke door leaf sizes and are available from stock to suit 2,040mm x 926mm leaves in RAL 9006 and RAL 9010. Bespoke door and window frames sizes or other RAL colours can be manufactured in approximately two weeks. Email:

Powershield steel doors protect and secure flagship Telehouse West data centre
Leading steel door manufacturer Powershield has supplied and installed 300 high performance fire doors to protect and secure the new £80million Telehouse West data centre in London’s Docklands. The flagship nine-storey colocation facility will provide 19,000 sq m of secure off-site storage for IT systems and electronic data for financial institutions, online and media enterprises, and the
nearby Olympics development. Telehouse is at the heart of the internet and telecommunications infrastructure, and the new state-of-the-art facility also forms part of an innovative district heat network, which will see excess heat from servers used in local homes and businesses.
300 fire doors including single, double and leaf and half were fitted throughout the building,
complete with co- ordinated hardware and electronic locking for
integration with the facility’s access control system. A number of large 2.75m H doors and doors fitted with
overhead panels were also installed. Brian Sofley, Sales Director of Powershield, commented: “Selecting the correct door design and material was

high on the client’s agenda, as the right specification would help to ensure that the stored data is safe, secure and protected from fire.
“Having originally considered timber doors, practical experience of using them within data centres led the client towards steel doors instead. Fire doors manufactured from steel offer exceptional performance and fire integrity, as there is no need for the intumescent seals required with timber doors, which can be vulnerable to damage.
“Powershield steel doors offered the best combination of fire performance, durability and security, plus we were able to meet all the specification requirements of the project in terms of fire door size and configuration. All doorsets were manufactured and installed on time to meet the demanding requirements of the build programme.”
Powershield fire doors have been tested in accordance with BS 476: Part 22: 1987 and BS EN 1634-1:2000, and compliance to these standards is assured through Certifire accreditation.
