New records software for manual PAT testers

Elite Elevator Safety

Seaward has extended its range of portable appliance testing (PAT) record keeping programs with the introduction of a new manual data entry product. The new PATGuard Elements program has been specifically designed for use with manual PAT testers that do not incorporate an internal memory for the storage of test results.

As a result the new software enables test results taken with manual PAT testers to be incorporated into a formal PC–based record keeping system.

Systems at Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Delhi

Global elevator safety and

communications specialist Memco’s Elite elevator safety systems are to be installed in 74 elevators at Indira Gandhi International Airport’s new Terminal 3 in New Delhi, India. The systems will be fitted to elevator doors supplied by ThyssenKrupp Elevator.

Memco’s Elite safety system features two independent detection systems. The first is a light curtain of infra-red beams criss-crossing the elevator car’s doors; the second is a 3D proximity detection system in the landing zone. Any person or large object breaking the light curtain or detected within the 3D zone triggers a system which automatically reopens the elevator doors.

The combined system consists of a transmitter detector (TX) and receiver detector (RX) mounted on the car doors. Each housed in a robust profile only 9.8mm wide, they automatically sense door separation and adjust themselves for optimum performance. In many installations a separate controller is unnecessary and the detectors can be connected directly to the door controller or elevator operator.

The Elite features the latest software as standard, including power reduction and timeout features, and can be fitted to virtually any new or existing elevators. This versatility makes it one of the most competitive and easy to use elevator safety systems on the market. www.memco.co.uk Email: sales@memco.co.uk

18 feature :: health & safety

The program is intended for use by any organisation that performs electrical safety testing and maintains their own records but who require a simplified database system.

This is in keeping with the HSE Memorandum of Guidance on the Electricity At Work Regulations 1898 which advises that records of maintenance including test results should be kept throughout the life of the equipment. In doing so the condition of equipment can be monitored and the effectiveness of preventative maintenance policies demonstrated.

Assets are visually presented using an easy to follow tree structure showing the site and location of each asset. Assets can be quickly and easily transferred between sites or locations using the simple drag and drop facility. Full asset details and test

result data can be quickly and easily entered via a single pop-up window. Dates of the last test and retest date are shown, with a clear visual warning if the retest interval has

been exceeded.

As well as enabling accurate records to be maintained easily, PATGuard Elements also provides fast access to a number of in-built templates to prepare professional reports, certificates, work schedules and invoices. The software also enables test history to be compared for trend analysis. Professional test reports and certificates can be printed-off directly or Acrobat reports can be produced for those who wish to operate a paperless system. The introduction of the new PATGuard Elements software complements the previously available PATGuard Lite, PATGuard Pro and PATGuard Elite programs that offer a range of direct data download and upload capabilities for PAT testers with an internal memory. Heronrib matting makes waves in Cornwall

The UK’s only double FlowRider® surf simulator has opened at the Retallack Resort & Spa in Cornwall. To provide safety underfoot, Heronrib matting from Plastic Extruders has been installed around the facility to provide a slip resistant surface for surfers, instructors and spectators.

Known as ‘The Loop’, this exciting water attraction generates a thin sheet of water which flows over a stationary wave

allowing users to carve or turn, ride up and slide down the simulated surfing surface. Heronrib matting is the well-known safety solution for wet areas. Its open grid construction helps water to drain away easily in all directions. This means that the embossed surface remains relatively dry and therefore slip resistant. The matting is very hardwearing yet comfortable to stand on while the anti-bacterial and anti-fungal additives ensure it is hygienic for bare feet. Another important benefit is that the matting is supplied in 10m roll format which reduces the number of seams and thereby minimises the potential for tripping. The matting is available in several colours and in widths of 50cm, 1m and 1.22m. Samples, information and performance Certificates are readily available from Plastic Extruders Ltd Tel: 01268 571116
