Vita Energia helps the Meyer Group UK
reaching an annual cost saving of £33,000.
As one of the UK’s largest suppliers of cookware, supplying brands like Anolon, Circulon and Prestige to all major department stores in the UK, and with a production unit that is lit up 24/7, the Meyer Group saw great potential in reducing the lighting energy bills and minimising CO2 emissions by implementing new and environmentally friendly technologies in the existing light fittings. Dave Slater, operations manager at Meyer Group UK said: “Shutting down the entire production to have the lights installed just wasn’t an option. Vita Energia worked with us to
accommodate this, and ensured the business continuity that is vital to our operations. The implementation process was very smooth and our investment is expected to pay for itself in electricity saving in just over two years.”

Protected by the shentongroup
The Priory Group has ensured that it will not face potential hazards caused by a power failures at its clinics and hospitals by using the services of the shentongroup generator cover. The Priory Group is the UK’s leading, independent provider of care for mental health conditions. Since the initial contract was signed with The Priory Group for its hospital near Southampton, it has contracted Powercall UK with a further 13 hospitals, care homes and schools.
Such has been the success of Powercall UK’s service, that when The Group’s establishments at Eaglestone and Thornfield Park needed higher levels of power protection the shentongroup’s, Scorpion Power Systems, was the automatic choice. To guarantee
consistent and reliable operation of the generators, The Priory Group contracted shentongroup’s Merlin Power
Management to provide it with its Powercare Premier Generator service contract.
“The shentongroup are unique and the only company that serves our niche market”, said Nick Erdbeer, Group Estates Surveyor, Maintenance & Engineering. “We have received excellent service from Powecall UK, Scorpion and Merlin Power Management. We are currently talking to the shentongroup regarding other sites that will require their expertise”. Email:

Wireless Environmental Monitoring Range
Radio-Tech has developed a new and innovative wireless environmental monitoring system that measures energy efficiency and building performance and is specifically designed to meet standards specified by the Energy Savings Trust (EST). Radio-Tech’s products measure building data
through a range of wireless sensors positioned throughout a property. As the entire system is totally wireless it requires no field programming and can be installed with minimal disruption to occupants. Sensors monitor variables such as internal and external temperature and humidity, surface temperature, carbon dioxide levels, window and door openings, electricity, gas and water consumption. Through partnerships with industry-leading specialists, Radio-Tech can also offer heat flux, light and electrical power sensing equipment.
Sensors collect data from a range of sources and, using 434 MHz RF, report this information back at 5 minute intervals to a single, central Wi5 Data Hub. The Wi5 Data Hub can be located anywhere in the property and with a memory of 2GB can manage data from hundreds of sensors. Once data has been received, the Wi5 transmits this information back to Radio-Tech or client hosted servers for analysis; this can be uploaded periodically or as often as every minute. Collecting such environmental data can provide valuable information about building construction and performance that can affect the future of low impact building development in the UK.

Remote energy monitor
Crucible Technologies has launched the PowerEYE 500, a remote energy monitor. This product is supplied with 3 current clamps and can be connected up in minutes. As soon as it is powered it starts logging energy consumption and transmits it to a website every night using it’s built in GSM modem. “During trials this product has already proved useful in identifying thousands of pounds of savings for our customers” said managing director Seggy Segaran. “They were unaware that the air conditioning was working even when the building was unoccupied and wasting electricity. Once we connected up the PowerEYE 500 and started monitoring the energy consumption it was pretty clear what was happening. Across the three shops our customer was able to start saving around £3,500 per annum.” “The beauty of the PowerEYE is how quickly it can be set up” said Ryan Diver one of the engineers behind the design of
energy monitors at Crucible Technologies. “If you can get access to the three phases as it enters the distribution board then any competent person can connect it up. The clip on current clamps does save a lot of time“.
“The other area where time is saved is that the customer can see their energy usage from the comfort of their PC. There is no need to drive to different locations or to where the PowerEYE 500 is connected up” added Ryan.
For companies spread across multiple sites, the PowerEYE presents the facilities manager with a cost effective way of keeping track of energy usage to comply with the CRC Energy Efficiency Scheme.
