Friday Night SailFest August 6, 13, 30 & 27

Friday Nights in August are about to

Windermere Regatta

Anacortes Yacht Club hosted 34

boats at their annual Grand Prix qualifier Windermere Regatta. Five races were sailed over June 12-13th in a sea of eel grass that had some boats nearly motionless under full sail. Boats arrived from all over the San Juans, Bellingham and Seattle. AYC lived up to their reputation for good times with karaoke on Friday won by the crew of Handyman and live music Saturday night. Continuing their tradition of hauling

home first place trophies, the Beneteau 36.7, Veloce, won A fleet, followed by the ID 35Extreme and another 36.7 the Vitesse both from Bellingham with the usual pirates aboard. B fleet was dominated by the sportboats. Chris White still smiling from his Swiftsure victory in Crazy Ivan, Brenda Stuntz in the M-24 Cool Beans and the Black and Blue racing team from PMYC aboard the eel grass dragging machine Dos. C fleet was the fast growing one design fleet of SC-27's. Stephanie Schwenk got the bow of Wild Rumpus out front each time, chased by the Kokopelli

and OIYC's finest, Jeff Rodenberger and the boys, aboard Saltheart Foamfollower. D fleet was won by one of those pesky Moore 24's sailing as well as the new paint job looked, Chris and Co. aboard the Moore-ON. Second place was the mighty Hotfoot 27 Blackfoot followed by the Surfin Bird, a W24 skippered by Eric Beemer. E Fleet was intended as “Plastic

Classic” for boats under 30' and over 5,000 lbs, it mostly was. Syndicat a venerable Catalina 27 continued her winning ways over Emoyeni an Islander 30 and Kymodoce an E-29 making a sweep for AYC boats. In the F fleet the only double-handed boat Red Eye Express skippered by Betsy Wareham beat out the two SJ 24's Magic Juan and Ana Maria for 2nd and third.
