The Sandpoint Sailing Association


(SSA) is pleased to announce the hosting of the J-24 District races in Sandpoint, Idaho. The races will take place on Lake Pend Oreille, from the Windbag docks. The SSA has the J-24 Fleet #174. This is a premier sailing event where the boats are all equal, so it pits sailor against sailor. Ballard Cup Series III July 5, 12, 26, August 2 & 9


The popular and low(er) stress


Monday night racing on Shilshole Bay continues throughout July and on into mid August with this final five-race series: Ballard Cup III. Races will be held on July 5, 12, 26, August 2 & 9. Series scoring allows for one throw-out. Also, in keeping with our tradition of honoring all racing persuasions, divisions for both flying and non-flying sails will be included. Shaw Island Classic Race August 7


The 40th Annual Shaw Classic is the


high point of summer sailing activities in the San Juan Islands. All boats are grouped into divisions depending upon their type, class, and handicap ratings. The divisions include multihulls, unballasted centerboards, registered PHRF boats and cruising sailboats of all sizes and rigs. The race starts and finishes in Friday


Harbor. The course permits rounding Shaw Island either clockwise or counter- clockwise. A real navigation challenge as currents, winds and projected boat speed must be factored into an equation to determine which way to round the Island. After the race, awards will be made to the winners in the various categories at the Club’s traditional pasta dinner. Race applications may be obtained

In keeping with a proud and long


held tradition, the Sloop Tavern Yacht Club will once again be holding this single-handed race, open to all those who fancy themselves mighty enough to guide their craft alone, around a course designed to test one’s sailing skills. Dinghy Sailing in Tacoma The Corinthian Yacht Club of


Tacoma (CYCT) will have dinghy sailing on each Friday evening in July through the end of September. Sailing is open to Juniors eight and older and adults with some sailing experience. You can use one of CYCT’s Lasers or Optimists or bring your own. Sailing will be from the CYCT Junior Float at the Foss Waterway Seaport and will start at 5:00 pm. Optional racing will start at 5:30 for those that want to improve their sailing skills around the buoys. Cost is $10 per evening and is free to CYCT and Seaport members. Juniors 18 and under require completion of a registration package and parental approval. CYCT Vashon Challenge August 21


The Corinthian Yacht Club of


Tacoma's Annual Vashon Challenge will be held on August 21. This is a double/ single handed race around Vashon Island. Go to the CYCT website at CYCT.com.
