ETRM Trayport’s GlobalVision Trading GatewaySM

Trayport has noticed that an

increasing number of trading companies have, or are intending, to update their ETRM systems. Under conventional wisdom, upgrading a central ETRM system, followed by interfacing systems, is a logical and acceptable approach. However, in some instances this short-sightedness can lead to much higher installation, configuration and total cost of ownership, if each interfacing system is not evaluated case-by-case. When implementing risk-systems Trayport has noticed two trends which have decreased time, cost and risk overall: Deal Lifecycle is King – Instead of implementing the main

system first and upgrading all interfaces to that system, projects which have implemented systems considering the full lifecycle of a deal have been quicker to integrate and configure. Implementing or upgrading systems that actually capture

deals and prices, then harnessing their API upfront – including industry recognised mappings and contract information –

Adding a Price to Trading Gateway

Buy vs Build – Unless a trading company’s circumstances

are very unique, most organisations buy ETRM systems and customise to suit. The advantages of this are significant and known to most, and the same rules apply with regards to implementing interfaces.

ETRM vendors using off-the-shelf interfaces to Trading

Gateway typically add value sooner than companies that build these similar links in-house. ETRM systems are an increasing necessity for trading houses.

It’s an easy mistake to spend time picking the best ETRM solution for your organisation rather than concentrating on implementation. This easy traction may be quickly lost if vital interfaces that feed information into your solution require multiple mapping to non-industry standard information. ■

means the same industry standard mappings are used from the time a deal is matched through to closure via the ETRM system. By implementing the ETRM system first, with different ID’s, mapping is done multiple times through the lifecycle adding costs and time to an implementation and an ongoing risk once live.
