Energy Market Transparency
The central transparency platform for generation and consumption data was established by the EEX and the four German transmission system operators (TSOs) – Amprion GmbH, EnBW Transportnetze AG, transpower stromübertragungs GmbH and 50Hertz Transmission GmbH – in the framework of their commitment for more transparency in European energy trading and has already established a solid position for itself over the last six months. The primary aim was to strengthen the confidence which market participants, and the public, place in the market by ensuring the comprehensibility of pricing.

This building process allowed EEX to almost act as a moderator between the variations from the TSOs, associations and other contributory parties. EEX also allowed parties to allow certain technical solutions as well as legal fixings brought compromises all involved stakeholders could agree to, which may not have been possible prior to the platform’s inception. The transparency platform also contains technical

and quality data which surpasses other platforms, bringing a sense of exclusivity over others. The call to action for the industry is that the platform’s usage
creates the highest standards of operation in transparency as well as its wide extensibility. And in terms of usage, EEX transparency has the power to extend its reach and functionality beyond Germany and Austria to other territories – which have already sounded an interest in using the EEX model. EEX has truly set the benchmark with this unique and all-
important facet of transparency for market participants, hopefully setting in motion a chain for other markets throughout Europe – and elsewhere for that matter– to follow. ■
