‘Work at height’ innovation C

ooling innovators Cool Technology and access equipment manufacturer Planet Platforms have come together for a unique work at height solution. Designed and installed by award-winning company Planet Platforms, the completely custom solution is installed at EDF energy, a client of Cool Technology. The access solution will be used for the maintenance of the cooling systems installed at the EDF Energy training centre at Risby, Suffolk.

Using a combination of Spandeck and Alutec, Planet Platforms’ work at height solution allows access to all 3 sides of the cooler units enabling maintenance to be conducted on them. The access system has been designed to also allow access to the edge of the roof. Additionally, handrails and a vertical roof ladder make this a safe way to work at height.

Altro innovation ensures rain doesn’t stop play

W

hen moisture in the subfloor caused irreparable damage to the new canteen floor at Herne Bay High School, XpressLay, an innovative safety floor covering from Altro, provided the perfect solution with minimum disruption to the school’s operations. Altro XpressLay features a pioneering embossed underside which allows moisture in the subfloor to escape. It is installed using double sided tape rather than conventional adhesive which saves both time and money as well as offering environmental advantages.

XpressLay was the ideal alternative when rain damage threatened to disrupt Herne Bay High School with lengthy closures for repairs. Instead of a six week construction programme to remove the damaged flooring and re-screed the subfloor, Altro XpressLay was installed over a weekend, enabling a scheduled parents’ evening to go ahead on the Monday. Ken Bills of Quality Walls and Floors Ltd, who carried out the installation at Herne Bay High School, said: “Time was of the essence on this job and Altro XpressLay was the ideal solution. The installation went very smoothly and was completed in a fraction of the time it would have taken to rip up the old floor and start again.”

Cliff Reader of Provian Construction Ltd, the main contractors working on a three year refurbishment at the school, said “Xpresslay is a very good product with lots of clear advantages. It’s easy to use and very efficient – what could have been a costly delay to the construction programme was averted due to the time savings offered by this product.”
