Step 7 - As you have no doubt spotted, I have changed the fill on my teardrop to black, I will eliminate the stroke or out- line before I finish this step. With my teardrop selected, I go to my brushes menu. In the top right corner you will see a little arrow or block of lines that lets you choose among options for this tool. We want to “Make a New Brush”, we can choose that option in that menu or by selecting the small icon at the bottom of the brushes pallet. Either one of these will take you to the next step.

Step 8 - Once you have clicked on the “Make a New Brush” you will get a choice of brush types, for this lesson we will be using the “Artbrush”. The “Artbrssh” takes whatever object(s) you choose and make them something like a rub- berstamp so that when that brush is applied it basically stretches or contracts that shape to match the path shape you apply it to. This will make sense in a couple of minutes, don’t get all worked up just yet.

Step 9 - Another option you have when you make a brush is to choose if and how color is applied or manipulated by changing the stroke or line color in the tool pallet. For our lesson we choose the “Tints” option, this means that if we change the color of the stroke or path in the tool pallet that it will change that individual brushstroke to match it, In that pallet you will see an area where you can name your brush, If (when) you go to make a number of brushes you will find it hand to have sets and names for individual tasks, it’s easier to keep notes on what you have done when you can go back and choose the same brushes for future jobs. You will also see an area marked “Direction” in the options, the program will choose a direction by itself, but you can change it to any one of the selections available. After I choose my “Direction” and name my brush I click on” Tints” in my coloring options and then I click OK. I now have a brush.

Step 10 This part isn’t really a step per se, it just shows you the original piece and the brush that’s made from it in the “Brushes” pallet.“ pallet.
