#4) I wanted this piece to have the WOW effect! Some sparkle and pop in the sun or under the lights of an auction. My next light layers of coverage was completed with Auto Air Pearl White also thinned down. The pearl gets everywhere, so with the help of my 300 cfm exhaust fan I was able to control the majority of sparkles flying around. To seal in this layer I shoot a few light coats of the Auto Air Transparent Base (also thinned down).

#5) After sketching the dragon eye, I scan and put into my computer for resizing and horizontal flipping to get the matching side. I print out a few copies, then using the #11 X acto knife and a cutting mat; I go to work on cutting the stencils.

#6) I mentioned I was looking for a sparkle effect, So I decided on going with the new AA sparklescents colors for the fire.

Here is the assortment of paints I used. I spent some time on a practice area to test the colors or

blends of colors to achieve the effects I required. This practice time is well worth it. The client’s project is not the right spot to experiment.

#7) To give the background a black smoke effect, I fog in thinned AA detail smoke black (it is not completely black in color) and marble it so it has no definite pattern. Then I sprayed thinned AA Transparent Black closer to the front of the helmet giv- ing a graduated shade of black. My goal was to leave in place approximately 30% of the white pearl showing.

#8) Still working on the background but shifting to the Sparklescent col- ors. First using thinned down white to create shape for the deepest color of red. Then using AA Sparklescent Tequila Yellow (I use yellow ahead of the red colors because if I went straight to red over white I would get pink, So I will always use that method as a precaution) Then using a blend of 50% AA Sparklescent Mango and 50% of Sparklescent Rock Star Red.
