RYA Yachtmaster Ocean
• Astro Navigation • Meteorology • Passage Planning
This fascinating advanced course assumes a good knowledge (RYA Coastal Skipper and Yachtmaster Offshore level) of chartwork and meteorology in candidates. You do not, however, require any prior knowledge of astro navigation.
The following three broad topics are covered:
• Astro navigation – We begin with information on global time and an introduction to using a sextent, followed by sun and star sights. Moon and planet sights and compass checking complete this section.
Having seen other correspondence courses, I can only say that Tiller quality and style of ‘teaching’ is of the highest quality.
• Meteorology – This topic looks at global wind systems, weather and ocean currents and how they vary over a year. The world’s weather systems are reviewed to help explain why the winds and currents work the way they do, with a particular focus on tropical revolving storms, how they form and the avoiding action that can be taken.
• Passage planning – This compelling
part of the course covers subjects such as ocean routing, passage planning on a grand scale and how to make an ocean passage.
Multi-course Package
By combining two courses in a single package we eliminate duplication and reduce carriage costs and can therefore pass on our savings to you. It is well worth considering our course package if you know you’ll want to study both courses. You’ll also find this package useful if there are two of you studying at different levels: each person receives the full course but all duplicated materials are removed.
• RYA Day Skipper plus RYA Coastal Skipper and Yachtmaster Offshore
This package allows students immediate graduation to the more advanced RYA course on completion of Day Skipper.
