Wider highways and light rail add up to a key multi-modal solution

Denver’s southeast corridor had exceeded its maximum vehicle capacity and was facing a future of constant gridlock. An outdated highway system, combined with an expected 150,000 new jobs over the next 20 years, threatened to add to the congestion. Storms would often flood the aging corridor, which connects two major employment areas in Denver, the nation’s 12th-largest city. Denver needed new capacity to meet future needs.
