Funding T-REX
The T-REX project was funded without new taxes.
The $879 million light rail component of the project was funded through Regional Transportation District and local matching funds (40 percent) and the Federal Transit Authority’s Full Funding Grant Agreement (60 percent).
The $795 million highway component was funded through a combination of highway user fees, Senate Bill 97-01 money and bonding/federal revenues.

The massive T-REX project was completed under budget and almost two years ahead of schedule.
The solution was T-REX, a
$1.67 billion project to widen the I-25 and I-225 corridors and integrate a comprehensive mass transit system. Construction began in 2001 and was completed in 2006, under budget and nearly two years ahead of schedule. T-REX, or Transportation Expansion Project, was one of the most extensive multi- modal transportation projects in Colorado history and today is seen as one of the most successful transportation improvements in the United States.
The project often is used as a case study for multi-modal solutions, effective use of the design-build approach, and environmental mitigation and livability planning.
The Colorado Department
of Transportation (CDOT) and Regional Transportation District (RTD) created Southeast Corridor Constructors to design and build improvements in the corridor together.
The project, later named
