Barnes & Thornburg strengthens

Barnes & Tornburg LLP has strengthened its IP practice by hiring Felicia Boyd as partner from Faegre & Benson LLP in Minneapolis.

She has represented plaintiffs and defendants on claims relating to patents, copyright and trademarks. She has litigated in several industries, including medical devices, soſtware, music and pharmaceuticals.

In copyright litigation, Boyd has represented Microsoſt, Macromedia and the Recording Industry Association of America, while she has handled patent infringement matters for Guidant and Genetic Technologies.

Working with the National Institutes of Health, they have been involved with the litigation surrounding first-generation HIV recombinant diagnostic technology.

Chambers graduated from the University of California with high honours in Chemical Engineering.

Before becoming a lawyer, Ruppert was a scientist at Genetech Incorporated, where he identified and characterised proteins.

Field Fisher Waterhouse LLP has recruited IP lawyer Tierry van Innis, who joins the firm’s Brussels office as of counsel from Allen & Overy LLP.

Dengate-Thrush joins NZ Copyright Tribunal

Te government of New Zealand has added Peter Dengate-Trush to the Copyright Tribunal for a five-year term.

Te barrister and patent attorney will replace Judith Fyfe on the tribunal.

Dengate-Trush, who specialises in Internet, IP and technology cases, currently works as chairperson of the board of the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers. He is also president of the New Zealand branch of the International Association for the Protection of Intellectual Property.

Previously, he was the chairman of the Asia Pacific Top Level Domain Association and InternetNZ.

Simon Power, New Zealand’s commerce minister, said: “[His] knowledge and expertise in the areas of information technology and copyright law will be of great advantage to the tribunal.”

Te litigation firm is launching an IP office in Europe to complement its US activities. Marcus Grosch, a patent litigation partner, will head the new office in Mannheim, Germany.

Grosch joined Allen & Overy in 2007 from his own firm, along with four associates who move with him to Quinn Emanuel.

He has represented companies such as Assa Abloy, Saint Gobain Isover, Crestron and Roche Diagnostics in German and cross-border litigation.
