ATHLETE OF THE YEAR

Billy Ledder

Gonzaga / Sr.

Ledder’s winning time in the 500 (1:05.10) at the Hoxton Invitational ranks fourth in the country, as does the 1:52.81 he ran to win the 800 at the Mid-Atlantic Track Classic. He clocked a 4:13.42 in the 1,600 at the D.C./Maryland Private Schools championship, sparking the Eagles to the team title. Will compete for Georgetown.

Lorraine Graham

C.H. Flowers / Sr.

Graham won the long jump at the National Scholastic Indoor Championships with a leap of 20 feet 21

⁄2 inches, the second-best mark in the country.

She also sparked the Jaguars to their first Maryland 4A championship by placing first in the 55-meter hurdles (8.19), second in the 4x200 relay (1:45.16), third in the 55 (7.18) and fourth in the high jump, 5-2.

Julian Blair

Westlake / Sr.

Won the 55 at the DCIAA Invite and at Maryland 3A West in 6.41 seconds. Won again at states (6.46) and was second in the 300 (35.32).

Robby Creese

Glenelg / Jr.

Owned season bests of 1:56.92 in the 800 and 4:18.76 in the mile. Won Maryland 2A titles in 800 (1:58.11), 1,600 (4:22.21) and 3,200 (9:56.66).

Matt Hazelgren

Stafford / Sr.

Had undefeated regular season in pole vault and went 15 feet 3 inches to win the Va. AAA Northwest Region.

FIRST TEAM

Sophie Chase

Lake Braddock / Fr.

Won the freshman mile at NSIC in a meet-record 5:01.67. Came from behind to win Virginia AAA 3,200-meter title in 10:48.39.

Olivia Ekponé

Northwest / Jr.

Placed fourth in the 60 (7.55) and 200 (24.50) at Nike Indoors. Also was runner-up in the 55 (6.97) and in the 300 (39.05) at Md. 4A meet.

Brelyn Finley

C.H. Flowers / Sr.

Won the Prince George’s County shot put

). Was runner-up at ).

William Kellogg

DeMatha / Sr.

Won the 500 at Montgomery Invitational in 1:05.35 and again at the D.C./Md. Private Schools meet in 1:05.14, second fastest in the U.S.

Ben McKinzie Jr.

Largo / Sr.

Swept the postseason in the 300 and the 500. Was fastest at Maryland 3A states where he ran 35.10 and 1:06.17, respectively.

Ryan O’Connor

Northern / Jr.

Won SMAC titles in the 800 and the 1,600 before repeating at Maryland 3A meet. Set personal bests in the 800 (1:53.57) and 1,600 (4:25.85).

Ariel Karabinus

Osbourn Park / Sr.

Won the 1,000 (2:59.56) and placed second in the 1,600 (4:59.01) at states. Also won the mile at the Montgomery Invitational (5:02.29).

Desereé King

Oxon Hill / Sr.

Won Prince George’s County, region and state titles in the 500 (1:14.89 at states) and county and state titles in the 800 (2:18.60 at states).

Thea LaFond

Kennedy / Jr.

Won four events, setting meet records in triple jump (38-23

(17-33 ), at the Montgomery County championships.

Sean Price

South Lakes / Jr.

Won Va. AAA Liberty District championships in the long jump (22-1) and triple jump (45-8.25). Also won both at Northern Region meet.

Aaron Shepperd

Won the hurdles at the Montgomery Invitational in a meet-record 7.50 before winning at the DCIAA Invitational in 7.56.

Isaiah Simmons

Woodbridge / Jr.

Northwest Region shot put champ had three throws over 60 feet at the Virginia AAA meet and won with 63-3, sixth best in the country.

Riley Louden

Falls Church / Sr.

Was the top area finisher in the pole vault at the Virginia AAA championships with 9 feet 6 inches. Went 10-6 to win the Northern Region.

Genamarie McCant

Robinson / So.

Won the 300 (40.83) and 500 (1:18.53) at Virginia AAA Northern Region. Was second in the 500 (1:14.46) at the AAA championships.

Adenike Pedro

Elizabeth Seton / Sr.

Outdoor All-Met won the 55 meters (7.18) and the long jump (18-43

⁄4 ) at the

D.C./Maryland Private Schools championship.

Joseph Woiwode

Georgetown Prep / Sr.

Won the 800 at NSIC (1:52.86). Also was a key part of the Little Hoyas’ winning 4x800 relay and their third-place sprint medley relay (3:31.25).

Yazid Zouaimia

Centreville / Sr.

Runner-up in the mile (4:18.16) at the Montgomery Invitational. Won the 3,200-meter title at the Va. AAA championships in 9:15.67.
