PLAYER OF THE YEAR

G Quinn Cook

DeMatha / Jr.

A dynamic point guard capable of scoring or setting up his teammates, the USA Basketball under-17 player led the Stags to the Washington Catholic Athletic Conference championship and a victory over No. 2 Ballou in the City Title Game to cement the area’s No. 1 ranking. Matched his career high with 30 points in the WCAC title game victory over No. 3 Gonzaga, then had 28 against Ballou. Averaged 20 points, 5.9 assists and 3.3 rebounds.

The moment I cracked the code was when . . .

“ . . . I started getting attention locally and nationally from various people and things like that. [I was] just having more fun with the game.”

G Ray Gatling

Oxon Hill / Sr.

Emerged as one of the area’s top scorers, averaging 25.3 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists as the Clippers claimed the Prince George’s County championship.

F Josh Hairston

Montrose Christian / Sr.

The two-time All-Met continued his sensational play after transferring from Courtland, averaging 17 points and 10 rebounds. Will play for Duke.

G Cedrick Lindsay

Gonzaga / Sr.

Excellent shooter also had the ability to get to the basket. Averaged 18 points and 5 assists as Eagles finished with No. 3 ranking. Will play for Richmond.

G Kendall Marshall

O’Connell / Sr.

McDonald’s all-American took over as the Knights won 10 of their final 13 games. Averaged 15.3 points and 6 assists. Will play for North Carolina.

F Victor Oladipo

DeMatha / Sr.

Perhaps the area’s most athletic player, the 6-foot-4 forward averaged 11.9 points, 10.3 rebounds and 3.6 blocks. Will play for Indiana.

G Markel Starks

Georgetown Prep / Sr.

Playing under control and shooting a higher percentage, the 6-foot-2 guard averaged 24 points and 8 assists. Will play for Georgetown.

G Donte Thomas

Ballou / Sr.

Dazzling in the open court, the 6-foot-3 guard averaged 23.8 points and led the Knights to 30 victories and a No. 2 final ranking.

G Tyler Thornton

Gonzaga / Sr.

The two-time All-Met played with poise in every situation. Averaged 14.8 points, 6 assists, 5 rebounds and 3 steals. Will play for Duke.

G Daryl Traynham

Wise / Sr.

The 5-foot-9 guard was one of the region’s best scorers, averaging 23.4 points and 9 assists. Will play for Massachusetts.

In his 13th year with the Panthers, Hawes guided a team with 11 juniors to a program-best 23-2 record and the Virginia AA Division 4 title with a 69-64 double-overtime victory over Broadway in the championship game. It was the first state title for a Loudoun County boys’ basketball team. The only coach in Potomac Falls history, Hawes has led the team to nine Dulles District

championships and to the regional tournament in nine of the past 11 seasons.
