JD Sports feels the force
M
ultiple retailer JD Sports has launched a Star Wars collection of trainers and clothing from adidas Originals. JD Sports says the project is “a
collaboration of galactic proportions”. The range went on sale on January 18, and features Storm Trooper tee shirts, Darth Vader track tops, and
Darth Vader trainers in Black with Orange detail, with images of Vader on the tongue, heel and sole. Surprisingly, these Star Wars Superstar trainers
come in adult sizes as well and children’s and nursery sizes.
Business continues to look up for JD. The Bury-based chain of over 400 outlets reported a festive sales increase of 6.6% in 2009, and it has also
increased its influence over the Canterbury brand by purchasing controlling stakes of Canterbury’s operations in Australia and New Zealand, to add to
the European business and global rights that JD already owns. JD bought the entire share capital of Canterbury Australia and 51% of Canterbury New
Zealand for £1.6 million.
