The danger
“Weren’t you ever afraid someone was
going to kill you?” I couldn’t help but ask.

accepting a ride with a stranger or the
stranger you pick up, steals your car at
gunpoint. “No, most of the people who
picked me up were really religious and
talked to me about God.” “Most of them
also said they’ve never picked up a hitch-
hiker before.”
After I point-blank asked him, Clay
admitted to carrying a small pocket knife
with him - just in case. He said it wasn’t
much because he had to pass through

the night since I didn’t have any other
