Ali McKenzie, Bachelor of Law/
Bachelor of Business, University
of New England.
Ali is currently participating in the Australian
Defence Force (ADF) Sponsored Undergraduate
Officer Scheme for the Royal Australian Navy, a
three-year scholarship program completed in
conjunction with her degree.
What attracted you to the ADF Sponsored
Undergraduate Officer Scheme?
There were many things, but in particular was
the lifestyle associated and the broad range of
career experiences I could have. It’s a scheme that
supports me through university, offers me a chance to gain valuable work
experience throughout my degree and a fantastic job and work lifestyle
once I’ve graduated.
How does this program fit with your degree and academic
requirements?
The program is fully supportive of my academic requirements and my
studies always come first. In my holidays I have the chance to undertake
work experience in different areas of law and different areas of the Navy,
which has definitely set a focus for where I’m going and the subjects that
will help me get there.
What are your responsibilities in the role?
I undertake work experience every year during semester break. Since
starting with the Navy I have been involved with the HMAS Sydney II
Commission of Inquiry which was a fantastic and diverse experience. I got
to travel for work and learnt many things along the way that they just can’t
teach you with a textbook. This winter I will undertake work experience
with the Directorate of Military Administrative Law in Canberra.
What have you enjoyed most about this experience?
