A message from the
chairman
Dear Members,
Welcome to the 2009 season. I believe that this year will
be like a step into the unknown for all of us due to the
current fi nancial situation but your Committee is greatly
encouraged by the support that appears to be emerging
for the forthcoming season.
Personally I hope that it might encourage players to return to
the `grass roots’ of our sport and go back to the period when
we played for the sheer pleasure of playing with a group of
friends and the enjoyment and privilege of just participating in
the greatest of equestrian sports.
My gratitude, as always, must go to our General Committee
whose dedication and hard work has ensured the continuing
success of the Club. In particular to our Hon. Treasurer, Quentin
Davis who has literally returned from death’s door but as
dedicated and determined as ever, Pete McCormack who has
been inspirational, Alan Wyatt, Howard Davis and Chris Graham
who have continued to work diligently behind the scenes
alongside the rest of the Committee (and their long suffering
and devoted wives!) to help create the Club you see today.
Finally my heartfelt thanks to Andrew, Nick, Emma and the
crew of Hunt Kendall, without whom we would not be
confi dently heading into the coming season with the certain
knowledge that the income raised by their long-term partnership
with the Club will mean that although we have to tighten our
belts we will be in a stronger position than most polo clubs
during this fi nancial storm.
In case some of you may be wondering how my new role with
the HPA will affect my duties at the Club, I would like to reassure
you that “Ham is where the heart is!” and although from time to
time my duties may take me away for a day or so I have total
confi dence that our Committee will enjoy the break!
May I take this opportunity to welcome you all back for the
2009 season and pass on my sincerest wishes for a safe,
n
enjoyable and relaxed summer.
