of light’ for children desperate for a helping voice. Keen to help this great cause, guests enthusiastically
bid for the generously donated prizes such as a stunning de Grisogono ring, exotic holidays and
exclusive Cartier polo packages. Both the electronic silent auction and the grand auction, hosted by
James Ryland, helped to raise more than £65,000 during the evening,
After dinner, guests tried their luck at the casino, which was hugely popular and, if in need of refuelling,
they only had to head down to the busy Hot Shots bar. Just before midnight the dance fl oor was in full
swing and guests danced until the early hours of the morning.
Thanks to the deep pockets of the guests, ChildLine will be able to train 45 more volunteer councillors
with the money raised. Special thanks also go to the committee who pulled the event together
under the wings of the Chairman’s wife Annie, a great ChildLine supporter, and to Esther Rantzen,
ChildLine’s founder, who ignited the evening with her support and enthusiasm.
As the last of the cacti found an owner and the Hot Shots bar ran dry, the music dimmed and one of
the great summer events of the season came to a close. What an evening it was.
