Quorning Boats of Denmark launched their
new trailable sport cruiser the Dragonfly 28
Swing Wing trimaran at the Dusseldorf

Olsen have managed to design
a trailable Swing Wing version of the popular
Dragonfly range, which can fold directly into a trailer with
a beam of only 2.55 m.
The boat has five berths each of 2 m, a separate toilet, full galley
and a big open cockpit, as well as a big companionway which
offers easy access and good light in the boat. The boat will be
available in two different versions: a standard Touring version
with 12.0 m aluminium mast and a Sport version with 13.5 m
carbon rigging and high-tech sails.
As a new feature, the boat will have big asymmetric floats with
140% volume. When sailing the floats are 1' longer than the
main hull to give maximum diagonal stability when reaching
downwind. Folded in the boat is 9.99 m long and the weight of
the basic standard boat is 1,650 kgs calculated; i.e. including
trailer the total towing weight will be approximately 2,200 kgs.
Although the trailer will be designed for a total weight of 2,500
kgs.
The set-up time for the DF28 on trailer will be about 30 to
40 minutes. The boat can stay folded in a slip with no fouling
problems on the floats. The boat has been equipped with the
unique Quorning designed Swing Wing system, which means
that folding either in or out takes less than 2 minutes in total –
using no tools.
The basic price for the Dragonfly 28 will be ca. EUR 105,900.-
excl. VAT, the Racing version will be available at around EUR
119,900.- excl. VAT.
The boat was extremely well received at Dusseldorf Boat Show
and the company have sold planned production to September
2009 – first showing in the UK will be in April when the first one
arrives here. Multihull Review have booked an early test!
