What is good  
SEAMANSHIP?
Seamanship is an almost mystical property that those of us who go to
sea need. If we have it, it will help us make the correct decisions and to
take appropriate actions, enabling us to stay safe while we are at sea.
Good seamanship is really a mastery of a combination of skills.

a magical experience that
can bring us immense
pleasure. It is a feeling of
great satisfaction to be at one with
the sea and to understand its moods,
by becoming a competent seaman.
However, all those who go to sea
in recreational boats should try to
be self-sufficient. Coastguards and
Rescue Services are there to help us
in times of dire need, not to risk their
own lives because we were too busy
or too lax to become seamen.
If you have a desire to study everything
that is needed and the dedication to
follow through and learn from experience,
in most cases those skills can be learned,
and newcomers can be transformed into
safe and competent seamen.
So what exactly is it that will turn us into
seamen or women.
  •  You will need a desire to  
    go to sea
  •  You will need to study the 
    relevant subjects
  •  You will need sea time to 
    gain experience.
  •  You will need some 
    natural aptitude
Without any one the result will be a lesser
seaman.
