Karin Apollonia Mü eller is a artist
and photographer originally from
Heidelberg, Germany. Her haunting
photograghs focus on a world we
pass by every day, a world we see,
yet ignore....
Looking at her images is like
glimpsing into a visual science
fiction novel ala J.G. Ballard or
Samual R. Delany. They have at
once a dream-like quality and a
solitude...also has a strong emo-
tional resonance—in the most
abstract sense.
Mark C. Harvey: In your book On Edge due from
Nazraeli Press in January, the publisher describes
the new work this way: “On Edge shows the earth
‘crumbling away,’ and our futile efforts to control
or hide the subtle invasion of nature into cultivated
spaces.” This statement inspires images of Ankar
Wat overtaken by the jungle.... How would you
describe what has become “urban wilderness”?
Karin Apollonia Mü eller: Michel Foucault claimed
that our current age occurs less in time than in
space: we live in the age of the simultaneous, of
proximity and distance, of the coexistent and the
disunited. This observation is based on the insight
that the accustomed order of perception and
experience in terms of a narrative structure col-
lapses in the fact of heterogeneity and plurality of
contemporary urban space. A spatial order replaces
historical linearity. Nowadays the term “non-space”
is commonly applied in an attempt to describe
characteristics of locations in the age of the global
economy, of technology transcending the contin-
