To the urban sentimentalist, all buildings have value. They hold memories like the boxes that they are. Even the unsightly objects can take on new meaning when their perpetuity is threatened. The lonely utility pole becomes the mast of the near-extinct clipper ship, their wires and insulators the proud rigging.

Equally important, though, is that the street is an active living place where people live and work, and play out their daily lives.
That these are their homes must be honored first and foremost.
My childhood home was pushed into the swimming pool and the entire area was leveled to build football fields.
