Bossong epoxy resin for historical buildings
Depending on the application and on the type of material involved, injected anchoring could require
different types of intervention: resin injections are fairly simple when the anchoring lengths are less
than 1 to 1.5 metres. For longer, cement mortar injections compatible with the original materials are
required, explains Bossong.
Thixotropic Resin used normally for anchoring guarantees against excessive spreading in the wall gaps, but
the short curing time complicates the deep extrusion stage. On the other hand, the use of Bossong BCR-EPOX
epoxy resin, though characterised by long hardening and handling times, offers, in this case, the best results
and permits going deeper for better anchorage.
In Italy the Bossong resin BCR-EPOX and recently the new size BCR-400 EPOXY 2:1 are one of the most
popular epoxy resins in strengthening historical buildings.
Some examples of applications are: Roof coverage of the Church of Santa Maria Maggiore situated in the
heart of the Città Alta old town in Bergamo and built in 1100. Pull-out tests on walls on site in Santa Maria
della Scala complex in Siena, Tuscany, one of the oldest European hospitals. The Palazzo Vecchio building in
Florence where Bossong epoxy resin has been used to strengthen parts of the walls of the upper tower of
the palace in front of Piazza della Signoria.
Other applications are to be found in many other important buildings in historical areas of Rome, Verona,
Naples and Venice.
