Single Cast Sprocket Replaces 39-Piece Fab

Cast Component: Sprocket. Material: Ductile iron. Process: Green sand molding.

Application: Drive sprocket for rubber track system for high horsepower tractors.

Dimensions: 41.5 x 19.76 in.

Casting Supplier: Aarrowcast Inc. (Shawano, Wisconsin). Customer: Camso (Magog, Quebec, Canada).

Initially designed as a 39-piece steel fabrication, the sprocket transfers power provided by the lower powertrain to drive the rubber track that is engaged with the ground to propel the tractor. Changing the design to a single ductile iron casting resulted in a cost reduction.

• T e weight of the cast version is more than the steel fabrication, but it allows the customer to reduce the amount of counterweights attached to the tractor.

• T e cast design provides a more concentric part, fewer cosmetic fl aws, such as weld splatter, and supply chain improvements stemming from fewer processing steps.
