Celebrating the Launch of the NCGA Amateur Tour

T

he NCGA first offered a points season in 1971, with Artie McNickle capturing the title

and Player of the Year honors. The NCGA is pleased to announce that there will now be three points races in 2015: men, seniors (55 years of age and older) and super seniors (65 years of age and older). The super seniors is the new division that will join the men and senior races, as part of the newly formed NCGA Ama- teur Tour. Also, an official and comprehensive NCGA record book has been established

on the Tournament Central page of NCGA.org. This record book offers details of the NCGA’s rich 112-year tournament history. The record book includes results of all men’s, women’s, junior and senior championships, as well as leaderboards that track the NCGA’s most prolific champions. (Hint: the NCGA’s all-time leader in wins is still active—the answer is on page 38). Other announcements: I want to recognize our more

than 200 incredibly dedicated volun- teer tournament officials who provide service for more than 500 tournament days in Northern California. Please take the opportunity to thank a tournament official for his or her assistance the next time you play in an NCGA event. Entries for all NCGA Tournaments

opened on Jan. 12. The following entries are available on a first come, first serve basis, and had waiting lists in 2014 (so register early to secure your spot):

62 / NCGA.ORG / WINTER 2015

• Spring and Fall Mixed Team Championships at Poppy Hills: March 27-28 and Oct. 30-31

• Senior Four-Ball and Super Senior Four-Ball Championships at Poppy Hills: May 20-22

• Valley Amateur Championship at Dragonfly: Sept. 19-20

• Parent/Child Foursome Stroke Play Championship at Poppy Ridge: July 18-19

• Super Senior Championship at Valley Hi: Oct. 26-27

• Two-Person Scramble Championship: Dec. 14-15

A Super Senior Flight has been

added to the Senior Four-Ball Cham- pionship. Twenty teams of super seniors will compete in their own flight for the Super Senior Four-Ball Championship. They will play from a separate set of tees during the Senior Four-Ball Championship. The NCGA will also make

mid-season point adjustments throughout the season to better repre- sent the actual number of participants at an NCGA Amateur Tour Event. A given senior tournament will be awarded additional points for an increase in field size. The increase in points would only go up one point level for the increase in participation. Points would be reduced one point level for a drop in participation. The NCGA has acquired the management of the popular California Scratch League starting in 2015. Matches begin in late Septem-

ber and run through late November. One club professional and six mem- bers compete in the 16-point game while playing at scratch handicaps. Each club hosts one match and plays away at three matches. The points accumulate through the four match- es to decide the group winners. The group winners advance to a one-day playoff to determine the Northern California and Southern Califor- nia champions. The champion and runner-up clubs then advance to a one-day match to determine the California Scratch League State Champion. The Northern Califor- nia Championship will be played at Poppy Ridge GC on Friday, Nov. 20. The California Championship will be played at Poppy Hills on Monday, Dec. 7.

Entries for all club events were

mailed to the club’s tournament chairperson in January. If your club has not received this packet, please contact the Rules and Competitions Department at (831) 625-4653. Online entry for all club events is also available at NCGA.org. If you have qualified for an

NCGA event at your club, be sure to check that your club official has sent in your entry. The NCGA does not accept late or incomplete entries. If you have any questions regard-

ing any of the NCGA’s competitions, please contact the Rules and Com- petitions Department, and it will be happy to assist you.
