Hanna-Wehrman Cup NCGA 10.5-9.5 | Poppy Hills GC | Oct. 20-21

Staedler-Jetter Cup NCPGA 19-9 | Poppy Hills GC | Oct. 20-21

NCGA Amateur Team

Make it nine in a row. The NCGA amateurs will possess the Hanna-Wehrman Cup for a ninth straight year after beating the NCPGA professionals 10.5-9.5 in the two-day’s matches. But the margin of victory was as slim as ever. The NCGA entered singles tied 5-5 after splitting

the previous days four-ball and foursome matches. The NCGA only won 1.5 points through the first

five singles matches, but came storming back to grab four of the final five remaining points and pull out a 10.5-9.5 victory. NCGA Player of the Year Trevor Clayton went off in the last match against Morgan Creek’s Philip Dawson, winning 2 and 1 to secure the clinching point. Jason Anthony, Danny Paniccia, Michael Tolladay

and Austin Roberts also won their singles matches, with NCGA Stroke Play champion Bobby Bucey grinding out a half point. Paniccia won all three of his matches. The NCGA now has a 22-17-9 advantage in the annual series.

NCPGA Team

The all-time series suggests that the NCGA senior amateurs have been dominant. But over last three years, it’s been all NCPGA

senior professionals. The NCPGA seniors walloped the NCGA 11-3 in

singles to run away with a 19-9 victory and close its deficit in the all-time series to 14-7-3. The NCGA entered singles down just 8-6, but the NCPGA clinched victory after just eight matches by securing 5.5 points. For good measure, the NCPGA closed the NCGA out by winning the final five matches as well. Herb Jensen and Gary Vanier were the only NCGA

players to secure singles wins, while Earl Stewart and Frank Pieper squeezed out halves. Jenson finished with three points, teaming up with Stewart to win in four- ball and foursomes.

The winner of the 2014-15 points season will be crowned champion of the newly founded NCGA Amateur Tour. All points events make up the NCAA Amateur

Tour schedule, and champions will be crowned for men, seniors and super seniors. Follow the action all season long at NCGA.org/NCGA-Amateur-Tour.
