May is the perfect month to savor New Orleans’ food, festivals, and outdoor fun. ::
BY BECCA BLOND S
unny skies, mild temperatures, and lots of festivals make May and June ideal months to experience
les bon temps in New Orleans. This is a great time to wander
through the vibrant streets of the French Quarter to dine on chargrilled oysters, gumbo, or beignets al fresco before the heat of summer creeps in, bar hop on Bourbon Street, then dance the nights away to live music on Frenchmen Street. The New Orleans Jazz and
Heritage Festival (April 28-May 7) and the New Orleans Wine and Food Experience (June 7-11) take place in May and June, respectively, and are two of the city’s biggest events after Mardi Gras.

WHERE TO STAY The Ritz-Carlton is our favorite luxury hotel in the city. It has a fantastic location on Canal Street in the French Quarter. The building dates to 1908 and was constructed in the Beaux Arts style. The lobby is a grand aff air, and the rooms and suites are equally elegant. The M Bistro restaurant serves up
yummy Louisiana cooking while the Davenport Lounge is where to go for a cocktail and live jazz. There is also an excellent spa. Or check into the W New Orleans
French Quarter, in the heart of the city’s oldest neighborhood, founded by the French in 1718. The swanky, boutique property is
also less than a 10-minute walk from Bourbon Street.
The hotel has courtyard-style
architecture with a heated pool. Rooms and suites have a luxe, artsy, and fun vibe. Check out the carriage house
studio suite with whirlpool for something more romantic. The tub is located on a private furnished balcony, underneath a crystal chandelier. Another legendary New Orleans
hotel is The Roosevelt. The historic hotel is a Waldorf Astoria property and has an opulent ambience throughout.
WHERE TO EAT Just a few steps off Bourbon Street, the classic NOLA eatery Arnaud’s has been in business since 1918. It serves quintessential Creole fare in restored turn-of-the-20th-century dining rooms. The Dixieland jazz brunch is notable. Felix’s Restaurant & Oyster Bar is
