t was a perfect late autumn day in the northern Rockies. Not a cloud in the sky, and just enough cool in the air to stir up nostalgic memories of my trip into the backwoods. T is year, though, was diff erent. I was going it solo. My two buddies, pleading work responsibilities, backed out at the last minute. So, armed with my trusty knife, I set out for adventure.

Whoa bear!” I must have made my point, as he gave me an almost admiring grunt before turning tail and heading back into the woods.
