off a stunning electoral victory, on Feb. 16, 2023, Fetterman checked himself into Mary- land’s Walter Reed National Military Medical Center “to receive treatment for clini- cal depression.” After he was discharged four months later, Fetterman, who returned to the Senate, appeared more determined than ever to buck convention.
“I felt unleashed,” he says. Among his notable moves
that defied political orthodoxy: In December, Fetterman
called for an end to the “wea- ponization” of the judiciary while calling for then-Presi- dent-elect Donald Trump to be pardoned over his hush money conviction.

Gisele was 7 when her mother brought her and her younger brother to the U.S., all of them undocumented immigrants. They lived in a one-room apartment in New York City and taught themselves English while
their mother worked cleaning hotels and houses. After 15 years, Gisele received her green card in 2004 and became a U.S. citizen in 2009. The couple have been living
in Braddock for 13 years and have three children — Karl, Gracie, and August. › 2017 Fetterman first came on to the national radar when he ran as an outsider for the Democrat nomination for lieutenant governor of Pennsylvania, and during his campaign earned several high- profile endorsements, including by Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders, Pittsburgh Mayor Bill Peduto, and Ed Rendell, former Pennsylvania governor and Philadelphia mayor. He won the Democratic Party
primary for lieutenant governor with 38% of the vote and joined the Democrat ticket along with incumbent Gov. Tom Wolf. › In 2018, Wolf and Fetterman won the general election, making Fetterman the 34th lieutenant governor of Pennsylvania.
