‘Planning for uncertainty’
There are various exciting developments for London Info International 2017
Following on from the successful launch of London Info as a conference and exhibition in December last year, the organisers have announced a series of initiatives for LII 2017. This year’s event will be at the Business Design Centre, in the London suburb of Islington, on 5 and 6 December. The venue offers a more central London location and a purpose-built conference centre with a two-level exhibition floor. There is a new conference committee
of 15 representing an eclectic mix of individuals and organisations from the information community. The conference programme will be multi-streamed and will include high level keynotes, executive briefings, fresh ideas sessions and cross industry panels. Alongside this we will run an open conference stream with sessions accessible to all visitors as well as delegates. A draft programme will be announced in June and super earlybird discounts will be available. As last year, the event will feature
a ‘disruptor zone’. The organisers are hoping for more disruptor entrants, with all finalists able to present to the main plenary conference delegates and to make further showfloor presentations throughout the event. A ‘disruptor wall’ will
“Faced with shifting and new strategic and financial
offer each participant the opportunity to further showcase their offerings. The exhibition will feature zoned
areas, organised introductions, speed networking, showfloor special meetings, events and receptions – while, starting this month, the committee will launch a series of ground breaking webinars:
l Creating and delivering value compliantly;
l How has the concept of being ‘citable’ evolved?;
l What makes a world-class university?; l Web of Science from the researcher’s perspective;
l Dr Eugene Garfield’s legacy to science and metrics;
l Key opinion leaders; identifying the rising stars in LS research;
l Measuring the value of content and research; and
l Where are the highly cited researchers?
Each webinar will be hosted by LII and will feature world-class information professionals. Attendance is free; registration is at londoninfoininternational. com/webinars. The webinar sponsors are CCC RightsDirect and Clarivate Analytics. Clive Snell, director of Info International,
told Research Information: ‘We have made great strides in getting London Info on the information professional’s agenda. This year with more time, a dedicated conference committee, more content features and a central London location we can take the event to a whole new level. We are rapidly growing our attendance on last year and building on the breadth and high level of seniority of our attendees together with a strong international contingent, which makes LII 2017 the place to be in December this year.’
The main conference themes are as follows:
challenges, how do we navigate a course?”

Planning for uncertainty The world around is changing rapidly and it is increasingly difficult to rely on the comfort of traditional social and political reference points. Faced with shifting and new strategic and financial challenges how
The new Islington-based venue
do we navigate a course? In this session we reflect on the impact of the last year on our industry and how to prepare for the future, as well as the information industry in the post-Brexit, post-Trump world, and retaining information integrity in the age of fake content.
Networks, personalisation and the market of one As informed and engaged users meet increasingly atomised information in the networked world, both information consumers and information providers strive towards personalisation. Is personalisation the endpoint of information networks and what does this mean for the information chain? How to make sure your searches are accurate, valid and trustworthy; the emergence of a new generation of information and content technology; and providing information to users at the right moment and in the right context.
Impact, access, ownership and rights The open agenda is transforming our landscape. Research funders are exercising their rights on publication outcomes, researchers are more able to influence the impact of their research and the fragmentation of information in the networked world presents opportunities and challenges in equal measure. The conference is aimed at promoting the measurable and indisputable value of information in uncertain times.
