The flow of opinions and information within scholarly publishing has always appeared to be in robust shape; however, a new survey urging librarians to tell publishers their innermost thoughts is to be welcomed. The survey, carried out by Bernie Folan and Claire Grace, and summarised on page 20, asked librarians to convey three messages to academic publishers. Some 667 messages were created, with the three most popular subject areas being: publisher pricing strategy and business models; ebook licensing, pricing and business models; and user experience and access issues. On Page 4 Rebecca Pool takes a look at the latest developments around discovery tools, and the vast potential they offer researchers, while on page 10 we quiz four industry experts on how they see the future of metrics within scholarly communications. As ever we have have a wide

range of analysis pieces – covering subjects including copyright, user experience, machine learning, evidence based acquisition and article processing charges – while we also have the first in a series of contributions from the library and information association CILIP. There are four pages of the latest

news, a preview of two forthcoming industry events, and we round off the issue with an interview with Brian Cody, founder and CEO of Scholastica.
